Description: A superb example of a Great War Royal Flying Corps Ground Crewman's Trench Art from Beaumont Hamel on The Western Front 1914-1918 Founded in May 1913 as the air arm of the Army and adopting the moto Per Ardua ad Astra (Thorough Adversity to the Stars) the RFC arrived in France on August 1st 1914. Operating in various aerial roles throughout The Great War including Fighters, Bombers, Photo-reconnaissance & Artillery Observation, it merged with The Royal Naval Air Service on April 1st 1918 to become The Royal Air Force taking with it the former RFC motto. Originally acquired in Beaumont Hamel,near Thiepval just south of Arras inthe Canadian sector of the Western Front,this is a very attractive item of personal RFC kit from The Great War 1914-18. Measuring approx 4" in height, it was expertly fashioned in the shape of an item of RFC hand-dropped aerial ordnance. Thanks for looking..!
