This was simply added to the ebay image to keep others from copying without permission. ************************************* This auction is for an ORIGINAL vintage circa-1918 WWI photograph, from a large group of 1st Aero Squadron images I am listing tonight. *** Graves of Lieutenant Raymond Fox (Pilot) and Lieutenant Walter Phillips (Artillery Observer). According to online research: "On Oct. 1, 1918, while flying north of Varennes in Lorraine, France, Pilot Walter Phillips and Artillery Observer Raymond Phillips (both of Ashland, Oregon) were attacked by four German planes. Lt. Joseph H. Farnham, who was flying nearby, saw the enemy planes come out of nowhere, followed by a streak of fire in the sky below him. It was Raymond and Walter's aircraft -- in flames, plummeting to ground. They were downed by one of Germany's fighter aces, 19-year old Franz Buchner. It was only about a month before the armistice. On Nov. 11, the fighting on the Western Front ended." "Walt and Raymond had been buried where they fell, ...each set with a cross made from plane struts in aviator tradition." This is not a later copy or reprint, this is an ORIGINAL VINTAGE TYPE-1 WARTIME PHOTO. Type 1 Photo: A 1st generation photograph, developed from the original negative, during the period. Photo was printed with no borders, and measures 8 5/8" x 6 1/2" Displays beautifully, with excellent focus and contrast. No rips, tears, holes, creases, folds, or repairs. Previously mounted, as seen in view of backside. Again, this is an original vintage circa-1918 photo, and not a modern copy or later reprint.
