Description: Original WW1 (March 1918) INFANTRY Trench Map entitled "ESWARS" which includes the (unmarked) position of a HEAVY RAILWAY GUN emplacement in the wooded grounds of a Chateau just North of Sancourt (see photo 3, square 7). The position has been accessed by extending the main rail line with 1 metre gauge sidings. (At the time of listing, I actually have a map which officially records this position with trench corrections to 13th March 1918.)1:10,000 Scale - SHEET 51A SW3Maps at this scale were used primarily by infantry troops rather than artillery units, and they cover an area in four times more detail than 1:20,000 Scale maps.Includes locations such as ESWARS, TILLOY, SANCOURT, BLECOURT, BANTIGNY, RAMILLIES, CUVILLERS, THUN LEVEQUE, THUN ST MARTIN, ESCAUDOEUVRES etcProduced on unbacked paper, it was retained officially (hence the row of filing holes in the left margin) and is in very good condition as explained below... This map is one of many acquired from a private collection which was previously purchased in 2002 from The Imperial War Museum. Each item was held in the museum's duplicate archives and deemed surplus. Almost all have IWM stock numbers or stamps etc and many have been linen backed for long term conservation and storage purposes. Significant numbers were unused surplus stock when originally transferred to the museum and have never even been folded. As such, many of these original WW1 maps are in 'time capsule' condition, and there are numerous 'Secret' or 'Confidential' maps relating to major battles amongst them. I will be working my way through the collection in due course. POSTAGE - Will be sent using Royal Mail's Guaranteed Delivery by 1pm Service which will adequately cover the insurance cost of the item. This is fully tracked and requires a signature on receipt. Missed deliveries may result in the buyer having to rearrange a delivery date as per Royal Mail's instructions.International parcels will be fully tracked. The seller reserves the right to cancel any sale to destinations which cannot guarantee a fully tracked route from door to door.(Ref 843) PLEASE NOTE - Following BREXIT, some items exported from the UK to EU countries may now incur import tariffs on arrival. This depends on the overall value of the item (or items) contained within the package. UK sellers are now required to display these details in the form of a Customs Declaration attached to the outside of the package. Such matters are beyond my control as the process is administered by the Customs Department of the destination country. With this in mind, please can all buyers from EU countries make themselves aware of how these changes may affect them when purchasing items from the UK. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
