Description: WW1 (1918) British "Second Army M.T. Circuits' map with an official ink stamp to the rear for "64th HEAVY ARTILLERY BRIGADE".Judging by the ink stamp and the four pinholes in the corners, this map would have been pinned up in a Headquarters for route planning to the frontline at Ypres. All the routes shown end here and seem to radiate back in the directions of Dunkirk, Calais and further South. It's printed on an August 1918 template dating it to sometime during the last few months of the War. By this time, the fighting had become mobile again and the need to move heavy artillery up to the rapidly evolving frontline was key to preventing the Germans 'digging in' effectively. An exceptional map with great provenance. Measures 89cm x 58cm.Bears a museum map cabinet hanging strip (attached neatly to the rear) and is in excellent condition as explained below.... This map is one of many acquired from a private collection which was previously purchased in 2002 from The Imperial War Museum. Each item was held in the museum's duplicate archives and deemed surplus. Almost all have IWM stock numbers or stamps etc and many have been linen backed for long term conservation and storage purposes. Significant numbers were unused surplus stock when originally transferred to the museum and have never even been folded. As such, many of these original WW1 maps are in 'time capsule' condition, and there are numerous 'Secret' or 'Confidential' maps relating to major battles amongst them. I will be working my way through the collection in due course. POSTAGE - Will be sent rolled in a brand new cardboard postal tube. I will be using Royal Mail's Guaranteed Delivery by 1pm Service which will adequately cover the insurance cost of the item. This is fully tracked and requires a signature on receipt. Missed deliveries may result in the buyer having to rearrange a delivery date as per Royal Mail's instructions.International parcels will be fully tracked. The seller reserves the right to cancel any sale to destinations which cannot guarantee a fully tracked route from door to door.(Ref 406) PLEASE NOTE - Following BREXIT, some items exported from the UK to EU countries may now incur import tariffs on arrival. This depends on the overall value of the item (or items) contained within the package. UK sellers are now required to display these details in the form of a Customs Declaration attached to the outside of the package. Such matters are beyond my control as the process is administered by the Customs Department of the destination country. With this in mind, please can all buyers from EU countries make themselves aware of how these changes may affect them when purchasing items from the UK. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
