Description: Original WW1 (1915) British map covering an area of the BALTIC SEA which was once part of the private collection of ALAN GRANT OGILVIE (see below for further details). Entitled "STOCKHOLM", it covers an areas where the borders of Sweden, Finland, Latvia and Estonia are in close proximity. Features international and provincial boundaries correct to July 1914 at the start of the War. In great condition and stamped "A.G.OGILVIE" in the top margin. Professor ALAN GRANT OGILVIE was an eminent geographer whose service with the Royal Field Artillery in WW1 led him to transfer to the Royal Engineers for the purpose of mapping the Dardanelles and the Macedonian Front etc. His military service in Salonika, France and the Dardanelles saw him mentioned in dispatches, and in 1919 he attended the Paris Peace Conference representing the British delegation in respect to international boundary settlements. Following WW1 he resumed his academic career, rising to head Edinburgh University's Geography Department, still finding time to become a Captain in the Home Guard during WW2. He died 'in post' in 1953, and it would appear that his private collection was bequeathed to the University. His maps were clearly his 'working tools' and he had good access to a range of captured enemy maps as part of his work. From a much wider collection recently sold off by Edinburgh University. (Following both World Wars, the government distributed excess stocks of Allied maps, along with captured enemy examples, to various national institutions such as libraries, museums, universities etc.) Will be shipped as per its existing fold lines. Please see my other WW2 (and WW1) maps, documents, photos etc. PLEASE NOTE - Following BREXIT, items exported from the UK to EU countries may now incur import tariffs on arrival.
