Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Token or charm struck as a souvenir for the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition at St. Louis, MO. Palace of Varied Industries, Unlisted in the Hendershott reference, however similar to the listed 61-490 and 61-510. It seems obvious that a number of similar 16mm "Palace" charms were struck showing various buildings, in Aluminum, Brass/Bronze, Copper and possibly other compositions, almost all of which are not catalogued. This example appears to be Gold-plated, possibly done after the fact as it shows mild pocket wear and no underlying substrate is evident. Some small marks, however no other damage or hole as is common for charms worn as jewelry. If it was plated after purchase, it is likely this was done over Copper - three Copper examples in Unc are certified by NGC as a Misc. 1904 Fair token. This specific die can be identified as the "S" in "Industries" is clearly re-punched. An NGC MS-64 example recently sold here shows the same marker. Out of a very old World's Fair collection, where it was hiding for 50 years or more. 1024-99 Please Note: We require payment within four days of purchase, unless you contact us for other arrangements in advance of purchase.
