Description: Staffordshire Spaniel Dog Spill Vase~ Fantastic vase to sit either side of a stately mantle piece, this moulded and glazed earthenware figure of King Charles spaniels sat beside tree-trunk vases that resemble trees or bushels when decked with bouquets. With their proud stature, gold lockets, regal glare and luxurious flowing fur these are typical of the long fashionable and very popular Victorian ornament and date from around 1870. Collectors items now, the Staffordshire spaniel was the quintessential bourgeois status-symbol ornament. No mantelpiece (or window sill) was complete without a pair of spaniels standing guard. The popularity of these figures may owe something to Queen Victorias own pet spaniel Dash (pictured). ~ Dimensions ~ Vase is approx. 11.5 inches tall, see photos.
