Description: Rare original antique engraving print from an 1850s illustrated journal. The page has two equally interesting articles with pictures. THe first is a case with 26 bound volumes containing the anti-slavery address of the Women of Great Britain and Ireland, with half a million signatures on the petition. It was presented to Harriot Beecher Stowe. This petition, "An Affectionate and Christian Address of Many Thousands of Women of Great Britain and Ireland to Their Sisters the Women of the United States of America," was drafted by the Earl of Shaftesbury. The document had been circulated by volunteers thoughout the British Isles, collecting the signatures of women in all walks of life, many of whom had undoubtedly read Uncle Tom's Cabin. As the women of both countries were deprived of the right to vote, the women of Britain made their voice heard in this manner, hoping to rouse the women of the United States to the anti-slavery cause. The second is on INALCO, also known as Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations) is a French research institution teaching languages that span Central Europe, Africa, Asia, America, and Oceania. The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 15 inches (28 x 38 cm). The picture fills most of it, measuring about 9 x 13 inches, with a caption below it. The page is in excellent condition for its age. There is text/photos on the back of the print. See scan for an accurate view of the condition. This print will come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
