Strauss recordings made by Kempe in Dresden, which have been highly regarded as definitive recordings since their release, have been reissued from the original East German master tapes!A version with modified specifications from the original TDSA88 This complete collection of Richard Strauss orchestral works by Kempe, who was born in Dresden, and released on the old EMI label, is a masterpiece that has reigned as the definitive edition since its release.For this release, the original analog master tapes of high sound quality, which were returned from the former East Germany, were digitized at Abbey Road Studios at high resolution (96kHz/24bit), and then reissued in Japan after undergoing the latest mastering process.The latest release in the “DEFINITION SERIES” is the 19th in the series, and follows on from the 10th release “Jochum & Staatskapelle Dresden / Bruckner: Complete Symphonies” from exactly one yearThese recordings have been highly acclaimed since their release as the most authentic complete collection of Richard Strauss' orchestral works.The Staatskapelle Dresden, which was originally closely associated with Wagner, had a relationship with Richard Strauss that lasted from the premiere of his “Serenade for Winds” in 1882 until the year before his death, and 9 of his 15 operas were premiered at this theater.In addition, the composer conducted the premiere of his Alpine Symphony (in Berlin) and dedicated it to the orchestra.Kempé was music director of the Staatskapelle Dresden from 1949 to 1953, and although he took a break from the orchestra for a while after that, he returned as a guest conductor from 1965 onwards, and his appearances increased.He conducted several important concerts, and the recordings made during his guest appearance in June 1970 developed into this complete orchestral works collection.The recordings were made systematically as a joint project between the East German company Deutsche Schallplatten and the West German company EMI until just under four months before Kempe's death in 1976.The recordings were made by Klaus Struve, who was the chief engineer at Deutsche Schallplatten at the time, and, as with Jochum's Bruckner recordings, they are excellent recordings made at the St. Luke's Church, and his achievements should be highly regarded, especially in the case of the Kempe recordings mentioned above, which were returned from the former East Germany.Not to mention the performance, it will continue to shine as a bible-like recording that can be said to be the sumo champion of the East and West in Richard Strauss recordings, along with the Böhm recording on DG.
