Description: An exquisite, rare antique beaded ornate Victorian Eastlake floral wall or slipper pocket Measures approx. 24" x 10" A hand written note in the pocket notes it was made in 1881. The wooden frame was cut and painted by the chief painter of carriages at the Hitchcock Carriage Co. in Cortland, New York. Minnie Holden Young made the case in 1881 (see photo of note). The beadwork is sewn on a rich brown cloth, and includes roses and other flowers with fancy leaves. The pocket is not attached to the wooden frame at the bottom. I do not see any tack mark where it might have been at one time. The bottom edging is worn in spots as is the top edging in small spots. Please refer to photos. Also, it appears that 2 pieces were glued and I have taken photos of these 2 places. See last 2 photos An exquisite piece of history. The Hitchcock Carriage Co came to Cortland, NY in 1877.
