The xxxx xxxxxxx and the air ship was a grand sight. xxxx xxxx. x." GENERAL COLOR(S)꞉ Off-white substrate with color halftone printing. If you have it framed in a double-sided glass frame, you can pull the frame off the wall see the opposite side of the card. ADDITIONAL NOTES꞉ This is an interesting “colorized” postcard from a company located in the same city as the Wright Brothers. The postcard was printed using “half tones.” It appears as if the colorful image was printed on a very thin substrate affixed to the more rigid cardstock. ABOUT J. B. MEILER & SONS: J. B. Meiler and Sons was a postcard printer and/or distributor located in Dayton, Ohio. During our research, we discovered the company also started selling "pennants" (for colleges, schools and racing), pillows and novelties. A classified ad in the December 1914 edition of "System, The Magazine of Business” advertised for salesmen to sell Meiler & Sons products as a sideline / source of supplemental income. On Page 106 of the July 11, 1912 edition of "Motorcycle Illustrated" they advertised that they made motorcycle pennants for "all machines." Banners and pennants were also used as advertising on vehicles in the early 1900s. ABOUT THE WRIGHT BROTHERS꞉ Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright were American aviation pioneers generally credited with inventing, building, and flying the world's first successful motor-operated airplane. They made the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft with the Wright Flyer on December 17, 1903 just south of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina (i.e. Kill Devil Hills). The brothers were also the first to invent aircraft controls that made fixed-wing powered flight possible. SHIPPING COST꞉ Your shipping cost is calculated when checking out.
