Description: For your consideration is this very nice large polished round 58 mm. cabochon of native silver in a matrix of pink calcite, quartz, and minor fluorite with Cobalt-Nickel arsenide species from the famous Silver Islet mine, Sibley Peninsula, Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada. The Silver Islet mine achieved global fame not only for its fabulously rich silver ores (and occasional world-class wire silver specimens), but for it's improbable location on a tiny island less than 100 meters wide situated in Lake Superior. After flooding/being destroyed by storms numerous times, the mine finally closed to good around the turn of the 20th century. Good silver specimens from this iconic locality are VERY hard to come by, and this fine example is from the noted collection of Robert Hauck. It was collected in the 1970/80's by a local Thunder Bay collector combing the underwater dumps around Silver Islet with scuba gear and a metal detector. Cabochon cut by Arizona-based master lapidary Wolfgang Mueller. Rare! Dimensions: 5.8 x 5.8 x 2 cm. Weights: 112 grams
