Description: Taken in Saint Peterburg, Russia, this antique CDV photo card captured a confident young Eastern Orthodox priest during the reign of Emperor Alexander II (1818 - 1881). Vintage clergy portraits are scare, and the St. Petersburg's location makes this photography ephemera even a rarer find. The antique photograph is in good condition showing wear consistent with its age and use. There is some soiling on the card. Carte de visite were invented in Paris by André Adolphe Eugène Disdéri in 1854. He also developed a method of producing eight separate negatives on one plate making it easier to produce multiple cards of an identical image.
