The pirate in the middle of the sign is a subject of Florida lore named Jose Gaspar, who, according to legend, sailed his pirate ship all over the Gulf of Mexico from his base in southwest Florida. This design was phased out in the early 2000s, but it can live on forever in your space with your purchase of this elegant sign. An original of these is very rare to find scrapped. Most of them have vanished from the back roads of Florida many years ago, replaced with the modern issue.
