Development of the .30 carbine round was started in late 1940 by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company under an Ordnance Department contract. By late 1941, the Ordnance Department was beginning the small arms ammunition plant expansion program due to the limited capacity of Frankford Arsenal and the commercial manufacturers. By mid-1942, the Evansville Ordnance Plant was completed and producing finished carbine rounds, even as the bulk of Evansville's capacity was devoted to .45 caliber production. The Evansville plant was later responsible for the development of the small arms ammunition M10 "spam can" used for long-term storage, and resulted in many of the boxes getting the "Repacked E.C." red stamp as part of the process.Each "Buy It Now" single purchase is for 3 unassembled cartons with a mid-war "EVANSVILLE ORDNANCE PLANT" label. The lot number is hand stamped on the lid prior to shipping, either matching my original boxes, or if you prefer, I can match the lot number of a spam can or crate that you may have. The cartons will be shipped flat, with assembly instructions.
