Description: Auction description Egyptian School, 20th c: A Scene near the Pyramids, Appealing Contemporary Study We are clearly in Egypt, near the Pyramids, in this quirky, appealing oil on canvas study from an anonymous hand. I acquired it at an outdoor sale in Paris but I surmise that the artist might have been him or herself an Egyptian. In the foreground, people look out at us as horses drink or feed at a trough. We see camels at rest, and a receding road leads to two ancient pyramids. The style is superficially naïve but I see real skill here (the head of the drinking horse). It's an evocative little work, setting one's imagination to a different place. Dimensions, with the included frame, are about 10.5 inches by 13.75 inches. Condition is quite good overall, and this painting is very modestly priced. Buyer will be responsible for shipping -- $18 within the U.S. And to see what else I have for sale, please click here.
