The significance of Armistice Day, which we call Veterans Day now, is solemnly portrayed in the faces of these World War I doughboys. The reality of the cease-fire November 11, 1918, has just come to them and it is much of a God-sent blessing for shouting. The painting, which appeared on a calendar not long after the armistice, was done by artist Ray Aldridge from a sketch he made in Belgium November 11, 1918. It is entitled simply, "Eleven O'Clock." After World War II, the holiday became Veterans Day in honor of all veterans. Photo measures 9.25 x 11.25 inches. Photo Is dated 1918.
