Description: This is a 1½ page letter typed on thin 7¼” x 10¾” Air Mail paper. When he wrote this letter Aug. 1st, 1943, Robert Currier, brother of Jane Morgan (born Florence Catherine Currier), was a PFC stationed at Victorville California Army Flying School. In the early 1930’s he opened the Kennebunkport, Maine Playhouse where Florence – according to a recent article in the Portland Press Herald – “… first… washed dishes and helped actresses get dressed. She eventually started singing and acting in productions at the Kennebunkport Playhouse and came back from time to time once she had launched her own successful singing career…” This letter, written to their mother Olga, includes a section expressing Robert’s concerns for Florence – “I was quite upset about hearing of Florence’s trouble… she has upset me for the past three months… the reason being that she was too definite and excusable about her making me feel sure that she was going to college.” “The thing which makes me boil is that I had always thought – and still think – that Florence had the intelligence to…” [OK – enough teasers…!] He then writes a very depressing and pessimistic bit about the war. And then follows with his work entertaining the troops on and off the base including some USO work – “A couple of weeks ago we had this show with Bob Hope, Anna Lee, Jerry Cologna, Dinah Shore and a host of Hollywood stars.” David Manners’ Apple Valley Ranch is also mentioned. Condition: The envelope/cover is mildly worn and noticeably soiled/yellowed. The letter is quite nice and fresh.
